In this work, Foer depicts the tunnels in Gaza used to hide weapons and clandestine entry into Israel as French medieval fortifications. The artist comments, “It is telling, that the first French word I re-learned, while in Paris during the war in Gaza, 2014, was “abri” which means “shelter.”
