The underside of a sea tortoise skeletal structure is composed of tortoiseshell repurposed from luxury items and is the only remaining source of the material in my iteration. Traditionally, tortoiseshell was used to make boxes and other objects but craftsmen only had small pieces to work with, often edged with gold.
