Tulips that were the most desired during Tulipmania are referred to as “broken tulips”. The broken aspect is illustrated by torn, upright tulips that have broken and the shards have fallen on the ground. Iconic, tulip-patterned Delft tiles form a grid similar to a garden path. The regularity of the patterned tiles is mixed with the organic, irregularity of mutated and broken blooms.
