A Strawberry Thief in Strawberry Mansion

The neighborhood where my grandmother lived when she was a child is currently in line to be gentrified by the city of Philadelphia. Foer incorporates blueprints of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art to represent renovation plans and the mansion itself reminds us that all these homes could be habitable, once they are repurposed. Harp strings add a feeling of construction materials. “A Strawberry Thief” refers to the wallpaper patterns designed by English arts and crafts artist William Morris and are used in the collage to represent domesticity.
