2001 25″w, 32″h collage
As most U.S. citizens remember, on September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airliners and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. The World Trade towers were two of these targets. In this work, started a few days after the attack and inspired by the televised memorial service at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., the artist uses stock market quotes and columns of names from the first listing of victims published in the newspaper to form the World Trade towers. Victims’ names scatter in the breeze and collect at the bottom of the towers.
